Magersfontein Battlefield and Museum
The Magersfontein Battlefield and Museum is situated in Kimberley. This is where General P.A. Cronje and his troops defeated the English forces. Lt General Lord Methuen had planned to attack at Magersfontein, but the Boers drove the English back and pinned them down until the British eventually withdrew its troops. The Museum holds many interesting artefacts as well as an informative audio-visual presentation. The Boer trench comes alive and you can experience the battle with all the sights and sounds as if you were right in the middle of the war itself! There are many other displays to enjoy, such as the uniforms worn by some of the leaders, and firearms used by British and Boer forces. The area also has a few memorials, honoring those who lost their lives during the battle. This is an interesting visit for the whole family. A definite must-see! | $75 |
